Hey, I’m Bess.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved to cook and bake. My mom jokes that growing up I loved being in the kitchen, but didn’t have the patience to follow a recipe. She always tells me that I would never read it through first (still her biggest piece of advice), and that I just wanted to jump in and get the ball rolling. While that still remains to be true, I’ve hit that moment of frustration of “Ok, yep, I’m in the middle of making this recipe, and I didn’t read the recipe enough to notice that I don’t have a vital ingredient” enough times that I (mostly) heed that advice now.

I claim Mobile, Alabama as home, but my family moved all over growing up. I think that’s what made me embrace Southern hospitality— being the new kid in school is scary, but it taught me how to talk to a brick wall. My husband would tell you that is my favorite hobby. My husband, William, our black lab, Kate, and I reside in Oxford, Mississippi. By day, I am a law student at Ole Miss, but by night you can find me whipping up baked goods and dinners for my favorite taste testers (Kate’s human food intake is limited, but allowed— William’s is far less restricted).

I am so glad that your internet search or social media stumble led you to me! My goal is to share recipes that are easy and timeless, decor tips to make your home more beautiful, and simple hacks to make your life a breeze. The more that we can simplify the hard and less fun things makes more space for the fun and beautiful things. I’m on a quest to celebrate the everyday and bring beauty and life to the mundane through food and decor. You only live once, so join me in making every day fun, beautiful, and special.
