Our Home

I moved into my current home (read:condo) in 2018, and have lived here ever since. William and I won’t buy until after I graduate law school, so for the past few years (and for one more), this place is home. If you’re in a temporary place, I FEEL you. I have to convince myself everyday not to buy things to spruce up the place since it is temporary. Something I’ve had to learn during this season of my life is that life doesn’t “begin” once your desired next step happens- once you get the job you want, or car you want, or find a boyfriend or girlfriend. Life is what happens while we’re waiting for other things to happen. Once I had that realization, I was so much happier where I am. There’s something to be said about feeling content! Here’s a few photos of our space, and a few of my favorite tips for how we made it cozy and homey.

1) FRAMED PHOTOS. This is such an inexpensive and non-permanent way to personalize your space. Pictures are so cheap to print at Walgreens or Shutterfly online, and they can be changed out whenever you want. One of my favorite corners in our home is in our living room, where we have framed photos from our parents from their wedding days.

2) COFFEE TABLE BOOKS. Despite that ours sit on such a low level and constantly have Kate’s hair on them, I love the assortment of books that we have. It’s a great way to remember special places you’ve visited, and to add a touch of personality to your space.

3) FRESH FLOWERS. This is my favorite way to treat myself. I simply cannot pass up fresh flowers, and I’ll never understand people who don’t like them or say things like “they just die.” Yes, they die. But they are beautiful, fresh, and full of life, and they make me so incredibly happy.

4) GALLERY WALL. William and I were fortunate enough to receive lots of hand-me-down items from our parents, many of which from his parents were framed pieces of art. I hung a lot of those pieces in a gallery-style wall going up our staircase and I think it’s such a fun touch in our home. The wooden piece with the Alabama state cutout was a gift from my bestie and favorite artist, Maggie Hayes. She’s so talented!!

5) INVEST IN ITEMS YOU LIKE. This one seems really simple, but you don’t have to follow trends or fads just because that’s what everyone else is doing. Invest in pieces that YOU like and fit your style. I love bright colors, so the cow print in our living room was something I loved. I also am a huge fan of gold, which made me want those gold lamps in our bedroom and the starburst mirror above our bar.

I’m going to try to add links here for most things that I can find, but if I miss something and you’re interested, please reach out!
