Spicy Frozen Margaritas

There are very few things that I love more in this life than a margarita. Tequila, lime, salt, all wrapped together with a bow in the form of a cold, fun drink. Literally, what is not to love?

My roommate in college, Maggie, got me hooked on spicy margaritas (and dropping a jalapeno slice into a Corona instead of a lime). All the love of a regular margarita, just with a little kick. You can do about a thousand variations on this- pineapple jalapeno margaritas, strawberry margaritas, orange margaritas, lemonade margaritas, and one of my personal favorites, a grapefruit margarita. I’m going to share the original recipe, and you’ll see how easy it is to customize.

1 can frozen lime juice concentrate (found in the freezer section of the grocery store near the frozen fruit)

1/4 cup orange juice (or triple sec liqueur)

3/4 lime concentrate can’s worth of tequila

1 jalapeno, sliced

Ice

Trader Joe’s Chili Lime seasoning, for garnish (or Tajin, found in most grocery stores)

  1. Place the lime juice concentrate in the base of a blender. Add the orange juice. Fill the empty lime concentrate container up about 3/4’s of the way with tequila. Add one half of a sliced jalapeno (leave this out if you don’t want it to be spicy).

  2. Add 1-2 cups of ice. Blend. If too liquidy, add in more ice until you reach your desired consistency.

  3. Get two shallow bowls, filling one with water and one with a thin layer of the chili lime spice. Dip the margaritas glasses first in the water, then in the seasoning.

  4. Fill each glass with margarita, and then top with a jalapeno for garnish.

  5. ENJOY!
